Man Bitches

“I heard you said I looked fat in this uniform!”
…..No but seriously, if either of you need at date I’m totally there for you.

After living in a sorority and working with Marines, I can say, without hesitation, Marines are bitchier (still love ’em though!). Now science explains why.

As kids, boys and girls are equally directly aggressive. But as girls as socialized to be sweet and nice, their aggression becomes more indirectly aggressive (or bitchy – the actual term used by these scientists). Meanwhile, males continue to favor “plain, old direct aggression”. But by the time people reach working age and beyond, both sexes have been socialized to be indirectly aggressive. After all, no one wants to end up in jail for punching out a coworker. So both men and women turn to gossip.

Interestingly, men and women tend to “bitch” about their rivals in a way that undermines their sexual appeal to the other sex. Men insult other men’s masculinity – their lack of money, status, or ability to offer protection (i.e. weak muscles, etc.) whereas women criticize other women’s sexual fidelity (slut shaming) and physical attractiveness (fat thighs).

By the time men reach working age, they gossip the same amount as women.
